Three Things Late

My three things are a little late this week because we have just returned from a week-long vacation to the Greek Island of Zakynthos (also known as Zante). I scheduled most of my posts ahead of time but I couldn’t really schedule this one ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway now that I’m back, here are my three thoughts for last week, based on the original idea for three things I read about on Salma’s blog The Write Balance with her “Three Things Thursday”.

Three Little Things To Share

1

Relaxing

I am always busy doing something and find it hard to switch off but that week of enforced relaxation lying for hours in the sun (well, under the shade of a tree/parasol anyway) was great. I really needed it after cramming two weeks work into one before I left!

I find when I do switch off I get so many ideas that I know I should do more relaxing the rest of the time. But then I get back and there’s all the laundry to be done and 3000 emails and all my good intentions disappear. Someone needs to capture that relaxation thing and bottle it.

2

Time Together

Spending lots of time together as we did last week (and for the next two) is always a great barometer of how your relationship is going. Hubby has something like 7 weeks off a year from his work (pretty standard in the UK), and I always love it when he is off, though it means I end up having to relax more than is natural for me LOL

Do you relish that extra time together or dread it? If you tend to bicker at Christmas or fall out on a trip, it may be time for a relationship tune up before you take your next break or have a few days off work together.

If you don’t enjoy his company there’s something wrong, though you each need your space. I definitely need mine – it’s nice to be back in my little cubby-hole/office now.

3

New Food

One of the things I love about travel is trying lots of new dishes. We love good food and often cook together (though I must admit he is a better cook than me, and so he tends to take over a bit and I’m happy to relinquish those never ending get-dinner-on-the-table-everyday type duties)

We ate from a Greek style buffet most of last week and it was great not to have to think of what to cook, cook it, shop for it or wash up after it. We always come back from vacation with new ideas for recipes to try and new flavors to incorporate in our cooking. Guess who will be looking for a Greek cookbook on her Kindle? Just checked. I have 9!

Over to you: How has your week been? Do you have a vacation planned? Please share in the comments below.

  1. Really glad to hear you enjoyed your week away. I love trying new dishes when away too, and have done since I was litttle. I agree with your point about if someone doesn’t want to spend time with their partner then there’s something missing. When my husband has time off work for holidays (not his days off), I’ll try to make sure I can take the time off too. That way we can go out and enjoy the time together instead of being cooped up in the house. It’s one thing that I love about freelancing that I can just take the time off rather last minute if necessary, and get the work done later on in the day.

Thanks Alexandria. I love that about working from home too though I still have a tendency to work when I should be taking time off/lying around a pool. The “baby” 11″ laptop I had with me in Greece was so painful to work on compared to my normal set-up with dual monitors that I wasn’t tempted to do too much though, thank goodness.

      • I can certainly relate. I have to actively do something so I don’t get online and start working. Last weekend, my husband decided we should go to Bannockburn Live so I got my Sunday off work completely. This Sunday was my daughter’s birthday BBQ, so that was another excuse not to get online. I don’t have one for next weekend yet, and will find myself typing away if I don’t give myself something to do. I already do it on the Saturdays even though I have no client work to do.

I think with me it’s because the lines are blurred between work and fun – I like what I do so I’m happy to do it on days off. But PC days definitely help with balance and I’m trying to achieve a bit more of that. Just trying to get to 100 daily posts in a row then I might cut back a bit ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Delightful and yummy! So happy to get to know you, Ana. Wondering how the Kissing Day went. Thought you would right more about that … ๐Ÿ™‚
I love your together concept. I have in my color-coded planner a special blue for what I call US time and make sure to use it. Fortunately, my partner is my best friend, so hanging out together is always the best.
As for food – it is always a joy to share whether at a Greek buffet or a bowl of popcorn while watching TV, although I am not quite sure about sharing ice cream. I’m kinda possessive about my ice cream ….

Thanks Judy ๐Ÿ™‚ Kissing day actually went right out of my head as I lay by the pool thinking of nothing at all for the last day of my trip but I’m sure we’ll make up for it once we recover from the journey back – we had to leave the hotel at 3am for our flight home and then flew overnight to arrive back this morning like zombies. I’m possessive about chocolate – he can have anything else ๐Ÿ™‚

A week like that is lovely. I agree Sophie. Thanks for your comment. Without having our teenager in tow we also like to do city breaks that are a lot more active, but he is not so much into sightseeing the same kind of things we are. We took him to New York once but we had already seen all the things another time without him so we didn’t have to repeat the same sights and we enjoyed fun teenager stuff with him the second time.

Glad you had a relaxing vacation, I guess it’s back to reality. And I’m with you on Greek food, love it! My week’s been going nicely as well, thanks for asking ๐Ÿ™‚
