Three Thoughts From This Week

Continuing my series of three things which occurred to me or happened this week, from an idea by Salma from The Write Balance blog.

Three Little Things To Share

1

Makes Me Think

The more often I blog about love, marriage and relationships and visit other blogs on all kinds of topics, the more I realize how much I love blogging and interacting with other bloggers.

I come across all kinds of different experiences that I haven’t had, views that I don’t share, places I’ve never visited and customs that I had no idea about.

The world is fascinating for sure, but the best thing about many of the posts and comments left on my blog and in social media is that they make me think about life and love in different ways.

Thank you fellow bloggers and commenters for making me think and sometimes making me change my mind!

2

Limited Sunshine

Living as I do in Scotland, summers are not always sunny. There is always some sun, of course, but not every day and sometimes not for a few days or even weeks at a time. When the sun comes, it means we appreciate it all the more, and get out in it as much as possible.

Sunshine is like all things I think – too much of a good thing and you don’t appreciate it, and even start to look for a change. When I lived in the South of France for a year as a student many moons ago, I found the constant heat in the summer could get oppressive after a while.

And so it is with people – too much of any one good quality is sickly sweet. A sprinkling of good qualities (even mixed with a few negative traits as long as they are not too off-putting) is much more interesting and attractive.

3

Faults You Can Live With

Talking about negative traits, just now I am living through the World Cup with football on TV at 5pm, 8pm and 11pm UK time and matches seeming to last hours on end, not to mention the pre-match warm up commentary and the post-match analysis. No favorite TV shows for me this week (not even Spiral) as my husband and youngest son are both avid football fans.

Thinking about it yesterday evening, despite not being keen on a month with the TV being taken over by soccer, I realized that I didn’t really mind that much. It keeps them both happy and enjoying something together, and I get to spend more time on my PC. It’s just an interest they have, and I don’t have to share every interest.

In relationships, shared values are important. Interests not so much. I’ll have to stick with shared values this month πŸ™‚

Over to you: Do any of my thoughts this week make sense to you? If not you can always comment and change my mind πŸ™‚ Please share your thoughts below

I agree, shared interests aren’t required, but sure are nice when you have someone close to share them with!

I love how you related the weather to people in your #2. I hadn’t thought about someone being too generous, or too kind, or too caring as being a “negative” . . . however, I can certainly see how those traits could be taken for granted until more “negative” experiences pop up . . . then you certainly will appreciate them more!!!! Thanks for making me think!

Thanks for your comment, Lisa. It’s not just about taking those good traits for granted with me, Lisa. If you think about it, someone who is kind all the time makes the rest of us normal human beings feel bad. I’d hate to be married to the male equivalent of Mother Theresa. You couldn’t ever relax and let a bitchy comment about anyone slip out LOL

Every now and then I like a good debate so it’s a good thing if a comment left on my blog doesn’t agree with my outlook. Give us something else to talk about! πŸ™‚

I like to be shown different ways of thinking about things, just sometimes I wonder how we all end up with such different views when we all live on the same planet and have the same information at our fingertips. I guess it’s all to do with the upbringing and education we have and the culture we are in which shapes us and makes us think about the same information differently.

I love the web and reading online – so many differing opinions, experiences and more. I find it fascinating and I’m lost without a web connection. These days though, it’s easy to get stuck in a bubble of sameness with personalised search and social updates only showing us what it thinks we want to see.

Hope you are enjoying our rare flash of sunshine Ana!

I’ve been married 40 years and you are so right, shared values yes, shared interests not as important. Although, some shared interests are nice, especially during vacations, and we do have a number of shared interests. I, too, find time to “do my own thing” when my husband is occupied with one of his.

Thanks for sharing Alana. Wow 40 years of sharing – congratulations on that πŸ™‚ I do like to have my own space and time to myself so I have a little room above the kitchen that I have claimed for my own. It used to be where the maid slept in Edwardian times and now it is where I work and escape from the football.
