When it comes to wearing something to please him on a date, the main thing to remember is that men don’t care about fashion!
That’s a bit of a sweeping statement, I know. I’m not normally one for pigeon-holing whole populations. Some men do care, of course, and there are all those fashion designer types who definitely do care – A LOT.
But for the most part, your average guy in the street, the guys you’re dating or your husband, they don’t give a toss about the length of your sleeves or the cut of your blouse, unless you look ridiculous. Then they care in a negative way.
All this means is that if you’re planning a special outfit to wear on a date to steal his heart, don’t put your money into the latest fashion.
And don’t buy a designer handbag in the hope of impressing him.
It won’t do a thing.
He has no clue about how many weeks salary that cost you (and he’s not likely to be happy about it if he’s your husband anyway). In any case, your average guy (any guy?) is never going to care about what you’ve got on your arm unless it’s another guy.
If the latest fashion floats your boat wear it for you or to impress your girlfriends, just don’t expect him to know a capri pant from a peplum.
Instead of trying to impress with your fashion sense, wear something that flatters your particular brand of femininity, whether you’re elfin and gamine or big and curvy. Don’t just wear something that you think he would like. Wear something that you think he would like and which suits your personality.
Buy an outfit that brings out the essence of you as a woman – that’s something he can’t help but like. He loves that you are different from him, so wear the clothes that show the difference without putting everything you’ve got that’s different on display!
Fashion seems to specialize in the outrageous and the androgynous. Stay away from that for date nights, if you want to turn him on. You don’t have to be frilly and floral to be all woman unless frilly and floral is right up your street.
If you’re not sure what your particular brand of femininity is, drop over to this Amazon page and take a look at the “Look Inside” of my book “Feel Good Naked! 35 Secrets to Irresistible Body Confidence” there. I just noticed you can see most of chapter 2 “Discover Your Gorgeousness” there and you’ll get a whole list of feminine qualities you can make your own without buying the book (Course, if you want to get the whole thing, go ahead – I won’t stop you ;))
If you’re buying new, spare some cash for undies that make you feel special too, even if you just met him and he’s not going to see them. The sexier you feel inside, the more he’ll be attracted to you. It’s a confidence thing.
Bonus Tip: If you want to keep him happy, never take him shopping and have him hanging around endless changing rooms even if you’re buying something for an event you’re both going to and you would like his opinion. Even if he doesn’t seem to mind, and loves you enough to put up with it, he would really rather be doing something other than shopping with you. ๐ You don’t need his help for your wedding dress – probably the most significant clothing purchase you have made or will make – so you don’t need it for anything else.
Over to you: What does your guy like you to wear on dates? Does he even care what you wear? Please share in the comments below.

My husband’s favorite thing is for me to wear well fitting jeans. His favorite view is from behind no matter how large I think my bottom is!

Thanks for sharing Karen. I think most of us are much more critical of our natural shape than our guys are. It’s a shame really.

Stopping by again from the Facebook UBC group! Another excellent post and great ideas! Hubby and I went out early for Mother’s Day on Friday night – and I put a little extra effort into putting on make-up, fixing my hair, and wearing something other than my “leisure clothes” or jeans that I wear around the house. He told me I looked great – and then he promptly asked if what HE was wearing was OK! It was funny, but rewarding, too!

Thanks for sharing about your date night. Husbands like to be told they look good too, not that mine has ever asked, but I let him know I appreciate it when he gets dressed up ๐
